About the practice

Russell Taylor Architects is an award-winning practice specialising in the contemporary application of traditional and Classical design. Our skills and experience are particularly suited to Clients who wish to achieve a particular look or style. We understand traditional styles of architecture and can convincingly design in them – everything from a new house or sympathetic extension to part of a building, such as a staircase or chimneypiece. We design down to the smallest detail: doors, windows, cupboards and cabinets and occasionally, light fittings, furniture and carpets. We have extensive experience working on residential, religious and commercial projects with construction values that range from a few thousand pounds up to four million across all RIBA Work Stages from Conception through to completion. We have an excellent record for achieving Planning and Listed Building Consents in difficult and controversial cases. The practice was established in 2005. It is a private limited company with Russell Taylor being the principal shareholder. Our main studio is in London, with a satellite studio in Cornwall. Work is undertaken throughout England. Our ethos is to design beautiful, timeless buildings: sustainable, practical and cost-effective architecture using natural, locally sourced materials, and traditional methods of construction. We work closely with our Clients, we develop the design with them moving in stages from an overall broad brush down to particular details. It’s worth spending time thinking about what is wanted, what can be achieved, and exploring alternatives.
