About the practice

Pritchard Architecture is a heritage led design practice built on an established understanding of the conservation principles required to deliver successful projects to a high standard within a heritage setting. At the outset of projects we undertake evidence based research to understand the heritage values and historic development of any particular site to enable informed decisions about repairs and alterations. This may include documentary research or appropriate physical opening up of buildings to gain a better understanding of their construction. Repairs to historic structures are focused on minimal intervention such as partnering of roof timbers or careful stitching of brickwork. Sometimes a greater degree of repair is needed and this is achieved through careful design of new elements which respect the historic fabric and can be clearly identified. Our respect for the craftsmen who originally designed and built these structures is exemplified by our lightness of touch and our sensitive detailing of any repairs that have to be undertaken.
