About the practice

Established in 2021, Greenfield Architecture is a small design studio and consultancy built around Jon Greenfield’s long experience and unique approach to architectural design. Two strands predominate in our studio: Historic reconstructions of theatres, with current projects at Shakespeare North, Shakespeare’s Globe and the Teatro San Cassiano in Venice, Sustainable design, focussed around certification in Passivhaus design and covering small to large scale residential, arts and community and education buildings. Blending a love of pure, simple modern design and historic buildings is an unusual combination but one which our studio finds to be very fertile and rich in creative resonances. Application of tested design methodology and a thorough understanding of building physics generates buildings that are flexible and long-lasting, energy efficient throughout their lives, maximise the use of passive heating and ventilation techniques and use low carbon materials that are easy to recycle. Our buildings are aesthetically rich, historically connected and fundamentally contemporary in feel. They fully match our clients’ needs and resources, resonate with their context and are in balance with the environment.
