Fox is a high achieving State Primary School in Notting Hill Gate, on an very tight site. Our commission was to develop proposals that would increase the pupil capacity (1.5FE to 2 FE) and make the most efficient use of external space. The solution was to excavate an historic earth embankment, that had formed one side of the containment for a Victorian reservoir, and to set a new teaching block into the liberated space. Use of the roof of the new block for outdoor activities increases the external school space considerably. A second component of the work is to fully refurbish and remodel the existing 1930’s school.
