About the practice

Buttress is an employee-owned, B Corp certified design studio working across architecture, urban design, interiors and heritage conservation. People sit at the heart of everything we do. We work with a wide range of clients - from commercial organisations and public bodies to cultural institutions, faith groups and individuals - always grounded in collaboration and shared purpose. We are thinkers as much as makers. Guided by our purpose - Architecture for an equitable tomorrow - we believe architecture is shaped by people, place and purpose, and that the best buildings emerge from a deep understanding of their context, history and future use. Buttress is a community of specialists. By bringing together expertise in conservation, sustainability, design and delivery, we add value to every project - making complex challenges clearer, more inclusive and ultimately more enjoyable to navigate. Based in Manchester and Leeds, we work as one connected studio - sharing knowledge, collaborating openly and bringing together different perspectives to create thoughtful, enduring places.
