Our brief for this project is “To provide a timeless home for a young family, the interior should reflect the age of the house while incorporating the clients modern tastes and lifestyle. More specifically a dramatic dining room, a hard working boot room and day room and a study/DJ room were requested.” This Dartmoor manor house is a Georgian property in an outstanding location with open views over Dartmoor and beyond. Woodford Architecture + Interiors have been appointed to prepare plans for the internal and external refurbishment of the property. Once completed the house will be a 5 bedroom 5 bathroom family home with a field kitchen and orchard, as our clients say “their forever house”. The interior scheme gives a nod to the Georgian architecture while integrating the technology for today’s living. To satisfy our client’s quirky side we have injected a sense of fun into the cloakroom using traditional bathroom fittings, wallpaper and panelling coupled with an oversized gilded mirror to create drama. In the study we have designed a Sherlock Homes inspired space, panelling and bookshelves decorated with anatomical prints and vintage medicine bottles. A large painting will be will be commissioned for the dining room to anchor the dining table in the open plan space. Antiqued mirror glass will be applied to a wall in the entrance hall to bounce light and give the illusion of a more generous entrance. Generally throughout the house a limited materials and colour pallet have been applied to give our client’s the timeless, refined and considered interior scheme they desired. Carrara marble tiles, slate, walnut washed floorboards and limestone make up the key materials. Client Testimonial "Woodford Architecture and Design restored and refurbished our 500 year old listed property in a protected national park – a project fraught with planning difficulties. The restoration and refurbishment was done with great sensitivity, skill, taste and attention to detail, and throughout the process we were kept informed and updated on all details in their characteristically friendly manner. The end result surpassed our expectations."
