Location: Walsall, Birmingham Planning Approved We took this project from a disjointed, dark and disconnected layout to create a welcoming and celebrated entrance; a home where the client was proud. We extended the slope of the roof to introduce a vaulted space to allow light to flood through. An existing disused storage space was extended and converted into a Yoga retreat for the family to destress and relax in, overlooking the garden and internal hall, allowing dual aspect natural light. The central part of the house was dark and lacked adequate ventilation, so we created a light well gallery staircase with a vaulted roof above and roof lights. This design allows the sky to be visible from the ground floor and introduces greenery and planting with textured natural materials to give a warm tranquil space. The light well allows other dark spaces to borrow light and allows for better ventilation opportunities. An oriel window creates an inspiring study/office space that encourages productivity. We also supported the client with VR and 3D visuals to help them visualise the space. This makes the whole experience less uncertain and stressful. Design well, live better ®
