Listed Building - Grade II, Alteration to existing property, New Build, Within a Conservation Area
Seven Architecture Limited , Clarendon House , Victoria Avenue , HARROGATE , North Yorkshire , HG1 1JD
Client: Harrogate Restoration Location: Harrogate The Old Police Station involved the restoration and development of the Grade II Listed building into high quality residential properties, offering a unique collection of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses and apartments. This won ‘Best Small Development’ in the Yorkshire Residential Property Awards 2016. What made the development of this site so unique was the layout of the buildings; as office spaces merge into living accommodation for constables and officers. Seven undertook the role of conservation architect and lead designer; our approach was to retain as many of the important period features as possible, such as the feature stair and entrance doors, the windows, and features of the original Muster Room, whilst incorporating the benefits of 21st century living. 9 houses and 16 apartments have been created, all to an extremely high specification. They offer engineered oak floors and doors, contemporary high quality ironmongery, locally built hand crafted kitchens, energy efficient integrated appliances and soundproofing of apartments to outperform current building regulations. Externally, the existing Grade II Listed structural frame is retained including traditional brickwork construction and tiled roofs.
