Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II, New Build, Within a Conservation Area
Seven Architecture Limited , Clarendon House , Victoria Avenue , HARROGATE , North Yorkshire , HG1 1JD
Client: 4Urban Location: Harrogate Seven led the design of this long awaited leisure destination in central Harrogate, providing a 5 screen art-house cinema and accompanying bars and restaurants. The development has radically transformed the outdated department store which previously occupied the site, strengthening the town’s night life economy and offering superior choice to local residents, tourists and business visitors. The building is prominent in the Conservation Area of central Harrogate and therefore a considered design was essential to ensure the scale, materials and form related to the character of the surrounding streets. Stone panels and contemporary glazing sit in unity with the existing historic terraces. The design respects the variety of building scales surrounding by increasing to four storeys along Station Parade to mirror the adjacent four storey terraces and reducing in height along Raglan Street and Albert Street.
