Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II
A Grade II Listed, late 18th Century House. Originally a regular, rectangular, structure, the house has been previous altered on a number of occasions. Our client approached us with a brief to improve the circulation around the house, which had become disconnected after years of alteration, to create a kitchen that would become the heart of the house, and to improve the relationship between the house and its sizable garden. A new Orangery extension was added to the building, replacing a glass conservatory that was added to the house in the early 1980s. The design of the new Orangery restores the balance to the composition of the house facing the garden; functioning as a kitchen, family room and dining room, the new orangery significantly transforms the circulation of the house and the way in which it is used offering less formal spaces to the primary functions of a family home – great for a family life but also for social events, both large and small. Concurrent to the works to the Orangery, the guest bedroom suites and all bathrooms were refurbished, altered, and updated. With the client in residence throughout the works, the considered alteration of existing services and sequence of works was crucial to minimise any disruption and disturbance to the existing fabric of the building.
