Rud Sawers Architects were successful in winning an invited design competition to design a new build Arts Building at Kings College in Taunton. The expansion of the existing art facilities at Kings School offered a unique opportunity to create a high quality building that provides much needed open plan and creative learning environment. Our proposals have been developed to meet the brief by creating a cost effective and rational building that sensitively links with the existing arts building. The building is subservient to the setting of the surrounding historic buildings. The building is to be designed using cost effective, environmentally efficient materials with services connections to the existing infrastructure. The principles are simple - A well sealed and well insulated building, top lit with diffused light to avoid over heating. Robust finishes and rational layout with minimal waste. The building was opened in Spring 2017.
