Arklow Road, RCKa’s scheme for innovative residential developer Pocket was granted planning consent in 2015. The £4m scheme will convert and extend an existing 1920's industrial warehouse building in Lewisham, south London, to provide 44 apartments. The development comprises 75% of Pocket's signature one-bed one-person lifetime-affordable apartments for first time buyers and a selection of larger units for private sale. RCKa enhances Pocket’s offer for compact well-planned affordable living environments with exceptional shared amenity spaces that encourage informal socialising, interaction and a sense of community. The simple form and material palette of the new design adjusts the industrial scale of the original building down to a more human scale on the street elevation, as well as providing an appropriately bold and contemporary rail-side elevation. The project contributes towards local regeneration projects, including Lewisham Links cycle improvements, with wayfinding signage, lighting, new-crossings and street planting, along with pedestrian and cycleway improvements that better connect New Cross Station to Arklow Road.
