This multi-generational family home is situated in a beautiful spot overlooking the Jurassic Coast. Our brief was to design a contemporary home that embraced the wonderful coastal views, connected to the landscape and provided easy inside/outside living. Our architectural design approach was influenced by the client's desire to create a building that works in harmony with the landscape, site topography and local vernacular. The result is an elongated pavilion creating a long low building that is rooted in the landscape. Working with the wider design team we have developed a fabric first, low energy form incorporating sustainable design principles, including embodied and life cycle carbon impact. This informs window sizes, active solar screening, material choices, predominantly timber and stone. Bell Cornwall provided support and guidance on the planning route to ensure that the outline application could be developed into a detailed planning submission that received widespread support.
