We have developed plans for a new building at Appledore School to help support their aim of developing an environmentally and culturally sustainable school community. The new woodland classroom pavilion will strengthen the school’s STEM curriculum and expand outdoor learning opportunities. The building will enable the school to offer engagement with science, technology, engineering and maths for their primary school children, their families and the wider community. Thoughtfully positioned between existing school buildings and woodland, the pavilion extends over sloping terrain, offering elevated views and an immersive learning environment connected to nature. With sustainable design at its core, the pavilion targets zero-carbon or Passivhaus standards. It features a green roof, rainwater harvesting systems, and renewable energy technologies, including solar panels and heat pumps. Low-impact construction methods and energy-efficient systems minimise both environmental footprint and operational costs. This innovative, multi-functional school building delivers lasting educational and environmental value. Future-proofed for the evolving needs of the school and rooted in sustainable best practices. For Appledore School, it’s a forward-thinking investment in both learning and the environment.
