Extension, re-planning and renovation of mid-terrace Victorian house, located in North Oxford Conservation Area. Prior to the project the house was in a very basic and dilapidated state, with minimal building services (only a single cold water tap) and sky visible through holes in the roof. The project involved a whole-house refurbishment of the property, together with a new two-storey rear extension, providing a new garden-facing living room with a unique study/bedroom nestled above. The refurbishment was originally designed to a very high standard of energy efficiency, following the ‘EnerFit’ standard. The scheme involved a high-performance upgrade of the building envelope in order to achieve high levels of insulation and air-tightness, and incorporation of an MVHR (mechanical ventilation and heat recovery) system throughout the house.
