Alteration to existing property, Sited in AONB
This is a single-family house on the Possingworth Estate, Cross in Hand r a family of 2 adults and 3 children, are new owners of the house. The site is within the High Weald AONB. The existing house is a modest 1960’s bungalow total floor area of 155 sq m plus 29 sq m garage. The bungalow has been much altered and extended and currently presents an unfortunate muddle of building. The original garage has been infilled to form a sitting room and a link formed for a new entrance. This leaves the original entrance redundant. The house has a mismatch of 2 types of windows in differing material and colour giving a feeling of lack of completion of the project. All these unfortunate works were carried out by previous owners. The proposal is to extend at both ends of the building to add 110 sq m to the footprint to provide a new living room and study at one end and master bedroom suite and bedroom 5 at the other. In conjunction with these works we would re-clad the existing bungalow so that the extended building presents a clear uniform presence. It would be an enhancement to the site. The principal construction material and cladding for the building would be timber since it is a natural, benign, sustainable and durable construction material. A timber building will sit comfortably in the heavily wooded gardens. It would be part natural finish and part stained Black in an approximate 50 / 50 split between natural wall cladding and roof soffits / Black structure and cladding.
