Located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea this 140,000 sq ft new build apartment building comprises 26 private and 13 affordable apartments, together with residents’ facilities, a pool, spa and underground parking. Working within the massing of a previously consented scheme, MSMR has reimagined Cheyne Terrace and delivered a successful, award winning development for its joint venture client Native Land and Grosvenor. With a pre-determined ‘deep plan’ layout, MSMR introduced imaginative space planning solutions and creative lighting techniques to maximise the quality and value of the apartments. Other key features of MSMR’s design include the relocation of the building’s entrance, which has been moved to a more centralised position on Chelsea Manor Street. The sequence of approach to the building is significantly enhanced by the introduction of a set of decorative metal gates and screens, leading to a covered, part-glazed portico, which in turn provides clear visual connections to the lobby spaces inside. The red hand-thrown brick elevations of Cheyne Terrace contrast with window openings articulated by lighter limestone surrounds. Decorative metal balconies and spandrel panels between windows introduce unique ornamentation to the building’s exterior whilst the rhythm, scale and proportions of the façade design, take reference from the Georgian properties in Oakley Gardens and surrounding area. The scheme has won multiple awards including Best Multiple Residence London at the UK Property Awards 2015 and Medium Dvelopment of the Year at the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards 2014.
