Bespoke Loft Conversion & Sustainability Upgrade — Victorian Mid-Terrace, Conservation Area This bespoke loft conversion in Hampstead, Camden was designed for a local artist living in a mid-terrace Victorian house within the Hampstead Conservation Area. The client needed to replace a faulty existing extension, resolve persistent historic leakage issues, and create a new flexible space to serve as both an art studio and a gym. MTA won planning permission from Camden Council for a mansard roof conversion sympathetic to the conservation area, having explored multiple roof forms to maximise the client's use of space while meeting the requirements of Camden's conservation and planning officers. The resulting loft houses an art studio and gym separated by large bi-folding panels that transform the layout according to the client's needs. Two new double Crittall doorsets provide access to the front balcony, preserving its beautiful views over Hampstead, while a large longitudinal rooflight floods the space with natural sunlight throughout the day. The project also delivered a comprehensive sustainability upgrade to the whole house — solar panels on the roof, a new air conditioning system to regulate the south-facing space, and new floor-to-ceiling Crittall doors on the ground floor to separate the front and rear reception rooms. New built-in joinery with extendable desks and storage completes the ground floor remodelling. MTA worked closely with the client and contractor JP Project Management throughout, ensuring careful attention to details and finishes to achieve a beautifully resolved home.
