Sited in Greenbelt land, Within a Conservation Area, Alteration to existing property, New Build
Office 1, Izabella House , 24-26 Regent Place , Birmingham , West Midlands , B1 3NJ , United Kingdom
Located in Moseley, Birmingham, this project reimagines the existing garage of a semi-detached home as a contemporary extension. The design adopts a subtle wrap-around form, allowing the new space to connect naturally with the existing house while carefully preserving the surrounding garden. Clad in copper, the extension introduces a refined material contrast with the original brickwork. The warm tones of the metal will gradually weather over time, allowing the addition to sit comfortably within its residential setting while maintaining a distinctly contemporary character. By building upward rather than outward, the design transforms what was previously an underused and dark garage into a bright, welcoming living space. The result is an extension that feels both modern and respectful of the original house, demonstrating how thoughtful design and careful material selection can create a seamless integration between old and new.
