Monocoque Cabin The Monocoque Cabin is a self-initiated project in which I was both architect and client, conceived as a holiday retreat nestled within woodland beside the Shropshire Union Canal at Market Drayton. Rooted in our practice’s commitment to critical regionalism, prefabrication, and the creation of covetable ‘design objects’, the cabin demonstrates how architecture can be both deeply contextual and intrinsically desirable. Its form takes inspiration from the de Havilland Mosquito aircraft of WWII RAF fame. Like its namesake, the cabin employs a lightweight, modular monocoque structure — a fluid, edge-free shell that sits lightly in its landscape, balancing structural integrity with a quiet elegance. The project has been recognised internationally, featuring as a distinctive holiday rental on Airbnb and celebrated for its innovations in timber construction, CNC fabrication, and cost-conscious design strategies. At Peatswood Farm, the cabin forms part of a broader initiative to diversify rural income streams — a collaboration between my practice and the farm that has brought a new dimension to its offering.
