A contemporary extension to a home on the outskirts of south Birmingham, currently in design. The project is about how careful material choices and traditional craft can lift a suburban house, adding floor area without losing what was already good about it. Handmade soft red clay bricks in Flemish bond, handcrafted Rosemary clay roof tiles, and vertical tile cladding carry the terracotta palette across the elevations. The materials are chosen to weather rather than degrade. The elevations were drawn and resolved by hand before anything went into CAD.
