The Black Barn transforms a traditional agricultural building into a warm, contemporary home, realised under Class Q permitted development. The original oak frame and structural character are preserved, allowing the building’s rural heritage to anchor a design that is at once rustic and refined. Externally, black-stained timber cladding lends a bold yet timeless presence, settling the building naturally into its Cotswolds setting. Inside, the generous, open volumes showcase the exposed oak frame and soaring vaulted ceilings, offset by a restrained, minimalist palette that brings clarity and calm to the spaces. Sustainability was woven into every stage of the project, with existing materials repurposed wherever possible to minimise environmental impact. The result is a home that honours its past while offering modern comfort, energy efficiency, and an enduring architectural presence.
