Our winning entry with SEED Landscape for the RIBA open design competition for the reimagining of Market Place in Prescot envisages the space as a new public forum. Based on Roman precedent, the Forum would be an external foyer for the Parish Church, the new Shakespeare North Theatre and multiplex cinema as well as local residents. The proposal brings together the natural landscape of the adjacent churchyard with the urban streetscape of the town. Key to the design is the removal of the retaining wall to the North edge of the site that isolates the current space and the creation of south facing terraced seating. It is envisaged that the current redundant wc block will be extended and repurposed as a community run cafe, hosting a range of different activities to provide an ongoing and varied programme within the space. The project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2018.
