MALIN+LYNN were appointed for the full internal refurbishment of a mews house in Belsize Park, North London. The ground floor of the mews was subdivided across a small floorplate, creating tight, dark spaces. MALIN+LYNN opened up the ground floor entirely, with the exception of a well organised Utility Room and a new dark, moody cloakroom. MALIN+LYNN managed the planning process with Camden council, as the mews falls within the Belsize Park Conservation Area. The new rich timber floor by Havwoods Flooring is offset against the Kitchen and Utility Room by Roundhouse Kitchens. The kitchen was sprayed in ‘Treron’ by Farrow & Ball, and the Utility Room in ‘Drop Cloth’. The two tones complimented one another, alongside heritage style wall lights and neutral soft furnishings. The addition of ribbed panelling was used to add texture as well as soften harsh corners - particularly around the staircase core, cleverly concealing hidden cabinetry. The first floor used to house two Bedrooms, a small Study and one Shower Room. MALIN+LYNN reimagined this floorplate to achieve a Guest Bedroom, Living Room & Study combined, one Shower Room and one Bathroom off the Hallway. The aesthetic once again was neutral throughout, with accents of heritage tones in the Study Area and the accessories. Matt bronze fittings and ironmongery are seen throughout the home. Bespoke fitted Joinery by Laki Carpentry was introduced within the spaces and fully designed by MALIN+LYNN. The original staircase was retained and made more contemporary, with a striking carpet runner and modern LED-lit timber handrail, guiding your journey through the floorplates. The clients’ brief was to create a Principal Suite on the top floor, to include an En-Suite Shower Room for the clients. We divided this floor to include the En-Suite plus ample fitted wardrobe storage within the Bedroom. The interior design aesthetic was to go contemporary, with subtle monochrome accents for a calming atmosphere. The pop of colour, British Racing Green, is present within the shower as a feature.
