A new house replacing an existing bungalow on the site this collection of buildings has a main five bedroom house with a separate pavilion house and four outbuildings for garages and vehicles and equipment and overall is 925m2. This home is intended as a ‘climate restorative’ showcase project for rural edge housing. Its circular structure is aimed at reducing visual impact on the site and maximising solar resources. On-site renewables have been installed, while low to zero carbon materials include wood-fired local handmade bricks and new wood-fired clay tiles. The courtyard provides external amenity space while protecting sensitive long views within the rural context from the negative impact of domestic paraphernalia. The house is an examplar of solar power generation and will be completely carbon free from construction through to operations exceeding Code For Sustainable Homes Level 6 and PassivHaus.
