The Village at Caterham, JTP's award-winning project for Linden Homes demonstrates how a consensus-led approach to brownfield development can deliver substantial rewards for all parties and set in place the foundations for a sustainable new community. A two-day community planning event provided the opportunity for local people and businesses to express their concerns and aspirations for the site and generated the vision for an economically-integrated, mixed-use neighborhood. Of the 348 new homes, 30% are affordable provided by The Guinness Trust, distributed within each phase of the development alongside the private sale element. A community development trust is providing much-needed leisure and recreational facilities and using its assets to create jobs for local people.
