A new-build facility adjacent to Tintagel Primary School, providing accommodation for the Children's Pre-school activities and for Community use. The Play Group within the Children's Centre caters for 24 children, from babies up to five year-olds. The main play space has wet and soft play areas and a cot room. The design makes the most of connections with the outside, with windows at crawling level [near landscape] and high level [distant horizons and sky]. Patio doors lead into the gardens. The Community spaces are used for training, consultations and Parent and Toddlers groups. They can be used separately or be joined together. All open on to separate outdoor spaces. The central space includes caf?-seating and table to encourage casual gatherings. Innes Architects ran consultation workshops with the Parents groups, which resulted in many imaginative ideas being considered for the scheme. We consulted with the Primary School Head and the Pre-school teachers, and also made presentations to the Tintagel Primary School Governors of different site designs to enable the best site to be adopted. Situated in a semi-rural location, the final design is inspired by the local architecture and tailored to its site and place within the wider landscape.
