6-7 St Cross Street started out life as a bullion-processing centre for Johnson Matthey. This refurbishment for Derwent London involved opening up and expanding the floor-plate by reconfiguring toilet cores and lobbies. The design strategy maximised lettable space and maintained generous ceiling heights and offered enhanced flexibility by relocating fan-coil units to the perimeter. The services and suspended lighting are exposed against a backdrop of robust painted concrete. The memory of the buildings previous use is humorously referenced with leftover gold ingots.
