The station was part of a larger regeneration project for the Oxford Road area in Reading. Its main aim was to deliver improvements to the customer experience by creating a ticket office, improving accessibility and security including lighting for the public and improving the public realm. GFA were employed by the contractor to design the building to fit on the site, meet all building regulations; co-ordinate the technical design with the civil, structural and MEP engineering team and work with the contractor to produce a full set of construction details. We worked closely with the subcontractors including the fabricators of the steel structure, the curtain walling subcontractor and the brick subcontractors to make sure the client’s requirements were met. We produced drawings and specification for the IDC and IDR submission, and we presented the scheme to both GWR and Network Rail. We completed the Form D document for formal submission to Network Rail and produced all documents for final sign off. The station is now successfully operating a great new asset to the area.
