Facture Architects have recently completed work on a beautiful home in the Maida Vale Conservation Area with an exciting client and brief – a growing young family requiring spaces for children and an eagerness for a contemporary light filled extension. The lightness of the glazing became the focus of the proposals and the team had to work hard to re-support the back of the house off a couple of slender columns whilst letting the glass slide beneath a simple line of coping stones. The architects were able to convince the client that they had enough space without extending the first floor by integrating a bespoke plywood staircase and opening the back bedroom to the roof.
