The Cottage is one of a pair of adjoining Cottages in a village in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the St Mary Bourne Conservation Area. While full of charm, the existing neglected Cottage had a small footprint and the proposal was to refurbish and extend the property and enable it to become a family home, whilst enhancing and preserving the character of the site and surroundings. ellisclare secured planning permission to double the existing ground floor area and provide additional accommodation on the first floor. A timber clad single storey side extension combines contemporary materiality and detailing with a traditional pitched roof form. Large sliding doors maximise the natural daylight into the proposed open plan living area, overlooking the garden. The style and materiality of the first floor and front extensions will match the existing Cottage.
