Project Overview Commissioned jointly by Panama Waterdrop Construction S.A. and China Construction America, this interior design project establishes the Panama branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). This milestone marks the first Chinese bank in Panama following the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Panama, reinforcing trade and financial ties between China and the Americas. Panama's strategic location as a regional financial hub and a critical shipping route makes it an ideal gateway for fostering economic collaboration. The design of the ICBC office reflects this significance by blending modern Western aesthetics with the distinctive coastal ambiance of Panama. Location & Architectural Challenge Situated on the 20th floor of the MMG Tower, one of Panama’s early green buildings, the office boasts panoramic views of Costa del Este’s coastline and the Pacific Ocean. However, the tower’s irregular floor layout posed a unique design challenge. Unlike the standardized designs of domestic ICBC branches, the regional director’s vision for this branch called for a modern, concise Western style while still capturing the vibrancy of Panama’s seaside cityscape. The result is a carefully curated space that embodies both the bank’s global sophistication and Panama’s lively coastal charm. This project successfully establishes ICBC’s presence in Panama, creating a workspace that seamlessly integrates global banking excellence with the unique character of its Latin American setting.
