This end of terrace Victorian house had been lived in un-altered since the 1970s and had to be sensitively refurbished to bring it up to modern standards without loosing the best elements of it's original character In addition to renewing all of the existing services, a series of small alterations on each floor were made to open up spaces and increase natural light. These included: 2x3m structural glass skylight inserted above main staircase. New structural openings formed linking front and rear ground floor living rooms Obtaining planning consent to re-build existing 1970s rear extension to match scale of existing house. Creating link between lower ground floor and garden by excavating the rear garden and extensively re-landscaping. Inserting a walk-on skylight and new glazing to bring natural light into family rooms on lower ground floor Adding ensuite bathroom 'pods' to top floor bedrooms. Excavating and waterproofing redundant basement space to create WC/utility room and wine cellar.
