Mixed use scheme for 5 ground floor retail units and 14 apartments. The apartments will be let to the YMCA for housing vunerable young adults. The project is for the re-development of a constrained urban site within a conservation area. The site overlooks the main public square in the centre of Chester-le-Street. BHA have designed a vernacular scheme in response to the planning constraints and guidance provided by the local authority. The scale of the building was problematic but resolved through splitting the mass into three distinct blocks to sit with the urban grain and character of the setting. The project is on site and will be completed in the summer of 2012
