Highlands is a scheme for 17 luxury residential units on a prominent cliff-side location on Jersey’s south coast. Designed in response to the rugged landscape, the sloping facades jut out of the ground like a natural rock formation. The scheme has received two favourable reviews from the Jersey Architecture Commission, the local design review panel, and is due to be submitted for planning approval in August 2011. To be constructed from cross laminated timber (CLT) panels clad in local granite and timber, the design cleverly utilises repeating modules to give a high degree of variation while maintaining buildability. Highlands was featured in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2011, and was awarded the AJ-Lend Lease Architecture Prize.
