Following an agreed approach with the client that building less would minimise construction costs and the environmental impact of the project -  The existing layout of the house was carefully reconsidered to maximise the already generous footprint of the home. This led to the design of a minimal rear extension that transformed the way in which the ground floor of this house was enjoyed.  The project maintains a large front living and creates a service area at the darkest point in the plan (the centre) where a new WC and utility room sit. The new kitchen is re-orientated to maximise its relationship with a replanted garden and alley, with a new rear extension housing a snug towards the garden.
