Alteration to existing property, New Build
We provided full architectural services for this bespoke one off house project in Bristol for a private client. The unusual, challenging triangular site was contained within an existing brick wall which we carefully retained and restored as part of the project. A new, lightweight, sustainable timber frame house was inserted into the existing wall, adjacent to a huge Plane tree and local park within a Flood Risk Area. The design features a courtyard entrance, with glazing on all sides of this quiet space, set back from a busy local road. The project fills the small site, and proposed a roof terrace garden at first floor level which looks over the surrounding area and neighbouring park. The flexible layout provides 2/3 bedrooms, with an accessible ground floor layout enabling the client to largely occupy just the ground floor due to mobility issues. The house is clad in a bespoke Corten weathering steel skin that envelopes the building and provides it with a subtle contemporary appearance within an area of Edwardian terraced housing.
