The site consisted of a long, thin site attached to a semi-detached existing dwelling. Constrained by the width of the site, and the need for more occupancy space, the decision was made to lower part of the ground floor to create a multi-level open-plan living and dining rooms, to allow an additional floor to be added within planning constraints. This, along with with a rarely approved addition to the front of the house, enabled the property to grow from a 3 bed to a 6 bed with study and gym/yoga room, while still retaining a spacious garden, and still appearing in-keeping within the street scene.
