About the practice

Associated Architects was founded in Birmingham in 1968. Since then, we’ve grown into a multi-award winning, vibrant practice with offices in Birmingham, Leeds, and Oxford. In 2024 we transitioned to an employee ownership trust this strengthens those shared values initiated in 1968; architects working closely together for the good of our clients not the individual. The practice is structured to give equal weight to both design and delivery and today, our work reaches across the UK and beyond, spanning both private and public sectors – from schools and universities, to commercial and residential, as well as large-scale urban regeneration schemes. We enjoy the challenge of working with existing buildings as much as we do new build projects and our approach is always as pragmatic as it is imaginative. We continue to grow as a practice in all senses, building on the original values that brought us together, and which remain at the heart of all we do. We have a passion for designing contemporary buildings using sustainable methods, technology and materials. The Passivhaus approach to low energy building design, provides us with an industry benchmarked methodology. Our projects have been rewarded with multiple accolades, including 37 RIBA Awards, 11 BCO Awards, and multiple Civic Trust, AJ Retrofit, SCONUL, RICS, and Green Apple Awards.
