A free standing mezzanine, overclad with polycarbonate sheet, transformed this 420 sqm workspace into a 600sqm photography studio, workshop and office space. These core spaces are connected through a series of informal areas: bridges, pods, snugs, seating clusters. These non-prescribed spaces allow for interpretive use and serve to encourage cross pollination and creative engagement between the specialist workforce. The original industrial features of the building were maintained, contrasted with a series of characterful interventions used to subdivide the space. Collaborating with client, contractor and a series of artists, bespoke furniture formed from plywood and recycled plastic allow for efficient space planning. Informal areas are characterised by strong use of colour, whilst key working areas are contained with monochrome partitions and stylised industrial lighting.
