Our clients wanted to create a statement home in the expanding and thriving village of Great Ellingham, Norfolk. We worked closely with the local planning authority, Breckland, to achieve full planning permission to convert and extend an agricultural barn into a high-quality bespoke dwelling which respects the historic nature of the building. Extending brings a greater use of functional internal space, restoring it back to life for a family to inhabit and enjoy residing within, whilst the existing barn structure is enhanced and complemented by the new extension with old and new materials and forms sitting harmoniously against one another. Connected together by a 2-storey glazed link, this functional feature point visually separates the existing barn from the new extension to highlight the two buildings age difference of over 200 years. A variety of materials break-up and create interest and character through a varied façad to create an exciting architectural composition.
