The challenge: A disjointed new build layout and an underused rear garden left the home feeling disconnected and uninspiring. The client initially envisaged a full-width extension to create more space and better flow—but budget constraints and planning considerations required a more creative solution. Our approach: We reconfigured the internal layout, relocating the kitchen and creating a light-filled open-plan living area. Instead of a full-width extension, we designed a smaller, cost-effective addition. A bespoke pergola was introduced to visually square off the rear elevation, creating the illusion of a full-width extension while framing an inviting outdoor dining space. The result: A cleverly reimagined home with fluid connections between inside and out—perfect for modern family living.
