Alteration to existing property, Sited in AONB, Sited in SSSI area, Within a Conservation Area
Ground Floor , Highgate Business Centre , 33 Greenwood Place , LONDON , NW5 1LB
This house known as Ty Gwyn sits on the edge of Walberswick village in Suffolk within territory that can be at risk of flooding from the nearby River Blyth. Converted in the 1960’s by its then owner Philip Powell (Powell & Moya) the house comprised a series of bold modernist interventions which required restoration as sympathetic as that of the historic fabric. The works included internal reconfiguration to open up the interior to views and internal sightlines, and removal of ceilings to create a lofty central hall and kitchen. The external building envelope was entirely upgraded to improve thermal performance. Flood mitigation measures and a sustainable heating system were introduced.
