Listed Building - Grade II
This Grade II listed, modern movement house is one of a group of six designed by Ernst Freud in 1937. The client’s brief was to change the configuration of the main living spaces to suit a family of today, whilst retaining the distinctive quality of the building. To achieve this the kitchen and living spaces have been opened up, and a new staircase inserted to connect to a studio workshop, formed by converting an existing basement garage. The house required extensive refurbishment and complete renewal of services. Original features, including the external canopy, balustrades and fireplace were either repaired or reconstructed, and the original oak mosaic flooring was carefully restored. The external brickwork was cleaned with a light acid and repointed, and the connection to the external spaces was improved by the installation of new sliding folding aluminium doors. Listed building consent and planning permission were obtained. The project was published in Grand Designs Magazine in 2007
