Southwark
£250,000 to £499,999
The project comprised the refurbishment of a 1970’s community hall to create an after-school club and community training centre, including new glazing and external cladding, complete renewal of services, new WCs, kitchen and ICT facilities. A new ramp and lift were required to make the building fully accessible, with a new reception to make the entrance area secure. The first floor hall is divided with a new acoustic screen, enabling different uses to be accommodated. A new stair and bridge provides access to the mezzanine, a previously unused space. The existing ‘language’ of timber screens is extended, using slatted timber to filter light and create privacy for the staff areas. Existing joinery was retained and repaired. The project was carried out for Peabody Trust and London Borough of Southwark, Housing Department.
