Alteration to existing property
This is a Victorian half House, with a small ground floor area and a shared entrance. The Clients wanted to maximise the ground floor without encroaching into their garden. We designed a new side extension and changed the entire rear elevation at Ground level. The new space opens up seamlessly into a raised garden terrace that has been paved in a continuous hexagonal pattern. Bringing in natural daylight and adding height to the kitchen were critical because the original house was small, dark and cramped. To maximise natural daylight throughout the ground floor we designed a side extension with the highest possible apex and an inverted skylight. This makes the enlarged kitchen feel much larger than it is. Also as a space-saving device, we designed a window seat overlooking the garden, but within the kitchen. New storage has been added under the stairs and along an entire kitchen wall. This is to ensure that the kitchen and dining room are functional, but also practical and un-cluttered.
