Victoria Park II is a three bedroom maisonette occupying the lower two floors of a four-storey late-nineteenth century terrace corner house. The design reinvents an already existing extension within the same footprint, to create a new living space and garden at basement level and an additional bedroom at ground level. A bold and simple move of excavating the existing garden to the basement transforms the lower ground floor and opens up the living space to a beautiful new sunken garden. A courtyard with fully openable glazing further brightens the space, allowing the outside to become part of the room when the doors are opened. The white stained larch timber cladding has a reflective quality, and brings light into the outdoor space. This is paired with contrasting board, marked concrete and lots of greenery.
