An estate renewal project in East London for EcoWorld and Poplar Harca. The masterplan has been developed from its history and seeks to re-connect existing and new quarters and green spaces together for the first time. It places play and health as its focus in every respect, at every scale - from the design of new buildings and landscape, to the creation of a new healthy street. The vision is for a child friendly neighbourhood, shaped for and with children and young people. It will be a safe place to play and hang out, where they feel welcome and part of the community. ZCD have engaged with over 100 pupils from Culloden Primary School and Langdon Park secondary school, using our ‘Voice Opportunity Power’ toolkit, which has included walking tours, analysis and photography. Alongside this has been the development of a manifesto, written by the pupils from Langdon Park School, which the design team are working to deliver. Our role on the project includes a close working relationship with the design team, helping develop the landscaping, urban design and public realm. In turn the design team are present at engagement sessions. Overall a truly integrated design and engagement programme for young people is being delivered, allowing young people to have a voice and an impact on their future neighbourhood.
