We completed one of our first ever projects in 2015 for Marcus and Amanda, the Timber Frame Extension which was featured in the Don’t Move, Improve exhibition the following year. Their growing family needed additional space and they soon bought a nearby Victorian terrace in a Conservation Area, with similar ambitions to rework the property. The side return extension was an opportunity to revisit the original design and create a sense of familiarity for the client, whilst also responding to the new house and different context. The extension is akin to a piece of their furniture, moving from one house to the next. The simple design is an economic use of readily available materials, with a softwood timber frame and patent glazed roof. The timber provides the structure, and is left exposed and unclad to create a zone for storage and display.
