Within a Conservation Area
Threshold House, a Victorian terrace in a north London Conservation Area, was previously dark and poorly arranged. The north-facing kitchen was isolated, and the living spaces were fragmented, with no suitable space for family dining. YSA reworked the plan and section to create a light-filled extension, drawing daylight into the centre of the house. The south-facing living room with it projecting bay was opened up to the rest of the ground floor and now acts as a welcoming focal point. Circulation was improved with a widened opening by the stairs, enhancing flow and spatial clarity, while also allowing for a new ground floor cloakroom. A threshold space between dining and kitchen introduces a moment of pause, capturing sky through high-level rooflights.
